The First Moscow International ‘Culture Plus’ Forum is held on the initiative of Cultural Policy Institute, in the framework of a pilot project ‘Bridges to the New Partnerships for Culture’ of the Council of Europe.
The aims of the Forum 2005: discussion of the problems that have emerged on the border between culture, economy and politics; co-ordination of the development strategies based on creative resources; articulation of the interests of creative professionals, businesses and the state, achievement of their mutual understanding, which forms an essential condition of the society’s integrity now.
The Forum’s main themes embrace: creative industries development; arts and business partnership; innovative strategies of a city development; and the role of culture, as an open space of communication, platform for interaction of different social groups, and a resource for economic development.
Creative Industries is an innovative concept of entrepreneurship based on the resources of culture and creativity. Along with science and advanced technology, it serves as a cornerstone of the innovative economy and economy of knowledge. In Russia, creative industries open up a new direction of postindustrial development that may serve as a sound alternative to the raw-materials economy. The Forum presents contemporary creative enterprises that use creativity as a tool and base their activity on cultural resources.
Sponsorship is another form of partnership between business and not-for-profit culture, which brings benefits to both parties. The Forum presents cultural projects that came out as a result of successful collaboration with the sponsors, and also such projects that have been looking for their sponsors yet.
Creative City, its resources and conditions for its development is another theme of the Forum 2005. Creative enterprises and professionals, creative energy and milieu are essential factors of the successful urban development. What kind of urban policy must be pursued to harness the creative resources of a city? What are the conditions that make creativity a source of the cities’ competitiveness? These questions are raised in the Forum’s exhibitions, as well as in its discussions.
