The ‘Culture Plus’ Forum is an annual international event held on the initiative of the Cultural Policy Institute and conceived as a presentation space and a discussion club providing an opportunity to examine various aspects of relationships between culture, society, economy and politics.
The Forum 2005 was focused on the arts/business partnerships, the creative economy development, and the innovative urban policy.
The Forum 2006 will further explore the contribution of culture to the urban and regional development. It will bring together international experts, creative professionals and representatives of authorities, the media and business community.
The aim of the Forum is to develop understanding that, nowadays, culture goes far beyond the limits of the domain aimed to preserve heritage and traditions. It is time for the authorities and the businesses to discover the real social and economic power of culture, and for cultural institutions – to understand their social responsibilities and to ascertain their economic influence.
Being a consolidating platform open to people of different social interests and possessing efficient communicative tools, culture shall contribute to the solution of the sorest social problems, and to this end:
- foster tolerance, diversity and equality;
- create positive social climate;
- encourage creativity and inventiveness.
Contemporary culture, comprising contemporary arts, contemporary interpretation of the heritage, design and advertising, shall manifest itself and be regarded as a powerful gear of economic growth and regeneration, being:
- a potent tool of territorial marketing,
- an important factor in workforce and investment attraction,
- an effective means to enhance competitiveness,
- an inexhaustible source of creativity and innovation for business and territorial development.
Besides the discussions on the economic benefits of culture, the Forum programme will comprise exhibitions and presentations of (1) innovative projects displaying the contribution of culture to the territorial development; (2) creative enterprises providing employment and attracting investment with the use of cultural resources; (3) cultural projects of business corporations, developed with the aim of tackling regional social problems; (4) art programmes demonstrating the social responsibility of cultural institutions.
